A major Abbasid public academy and intellectual center with a large private library belonging to the Abbasid Caliphs. It housed rare books and collections of poetry in Arabic and translated works from other languages such as Greek, Sanskrit and Syriac.
An ancient library and university which was founded as a center of learning in the Fatimid Caliphate. It quickly became an important center for diverse branches of Wisdom, rivaling the great libraries in Baghdad and Constantinople.
Founded by Umayyad Caliph Al Hakam in Cordoba, Al Andalus, and boasted more than 400,000 books, rivaling Baghdad and Cairo. It was a public library with a large collection of materials on a wide range of subjects.
